Hoot Owl Wedding

Sierra and Ryan got married on Sun August 28th, 2011. Surrounded by such wonderful family and friends they exchanged their vows at Hoot Owl in Healdsburg, Ca. I was touched to see how low key and real, yet organized and beautiful the whole event was. From the flowers, to the Huppah, to the photos, most everything was done by family or friends. It was quite a lovely evening. Oopahhh!!!

Still Life (at all times)

A small selection if images taken from my 2007 San Jose State University BFA show at all times. Looking through the images again now in 2011, the ones that I enjoy the most are those without any people in them. Even though the idea or concept was not so clear while it was being made, it was a good exercise that allowed me to see what I liked to shoot. The same type of “still life” can be seen in my Mexico with BBI work.

Proyecto Maiz

“La tierra es de quien la trabaja.”
-Emeliano Zapata

Maize (corn) is embedded among the cracks of sidewalks, along the gates of mechanic shops, and even threatens to tickle 20-ft.-tall telephone wires in vastly urbanized cities like Los Angeles and Riverside in Southern California. Where? You may ask yourself, if you have ever for a brief moment traversed the city streets of Southern California. And this very question, or rather disbelief, along with a quest for solutions to a rising concern over biodiversity loss in Mexico, prompted an investigation of traditional maize cultivation in Southern California for a Masters thesis project in the International Agricultural Development Graduate Group at UC Davis.
